“A donkey-cut for a Schnauzer and a full-body Mohawk for a Standard Poodle,” says Bow Wow Boutique manager and groomer Christa Wagner Curtin. “We’ve gotten some pretty interesting requests. We do them because it’s what the owners want, and they seem to be happy with it.”
Owner and groomer Kim Meyers opened Bow Wow Boutique in 2004. She started off by grooming show dogs, worked for groomers then, started her own place. “I picked Golden because there weren’t many groomers in town, and it seemed like a good place to start a business. I love Golden, it’s a big city with a small-town feel.”
Bow Wow Boutique had to close for five weeks at the beginning of COVID but was soon put on the critical list because many dogs suffered by not being taken care of. “When we opened up, dogs were brought in full of mutts”, says Meyers.
Bow Wow Boutique offers grooming and a small-dog daycare (up to 25 pounds). “My favorite dogs are Terriers, but I just love them all,” says Kim. “You just have the patience of a…well, I guess a cow in order to be a good groomer.”
